Executive Committee

Message from the Interim President

As stated in the Preamble of the NAACP’s Constitution, we were founded on the beliefs embodied in the Constitution of the United States of America. We support democracy, dignity and freedom. And our members, in keeping with the charge of our founders, stand against all forms of injustice. We know that the United States of America, built by us all, belongs to all of us. The repayment for our labor is equity and justice for all. The St. Mary’s County Branch NAACP joins with branches in Maryland, across the United States and in other countries to advocate for justice until all, without regard to race, gender, creed or religion enjoy equal status. Visit the pages of our website, if you are interested in information about ways that you can learn more about the impact of civil rights and social justice issues locally and link to the state and national websites for more information. Find out how you can advocate and take action to support the mission of the NAACP that is being accomplished by the St. Mary’s County Branch. Our mission is to ensure the political, educational, social, and economic equality of rights of all persons and to eliminate race- based discrimination. Find out how you can get involved and help us meet our goals through the work of high functioning committees. As we continue to develop and update our website look for information about the following:

  • Education- Improving educational achievement of disadvantaged students (Eliminating the Achievement Gap, Diversity in Staffing, Student Conduct, Scholarship opportunities (Claudia Pickeral Scholarship and more)
  • Employment (Summer Jobs for Youth!)
  • College and Career Readiness events (NAACP’s Annual College and Career Fair Featuring Historically Black Colleges and Universities)
  • Campaign for Youth Involvement YMCA (Community Center) in Lexington Park/Great Mills area.
  • Political Action, Voter Registration and Voter Education  (Souls to the Polls)
  • Religious Affairs (Local Church events connected with social justice and civil rights)
  • Health Needs for African American and other minorities……. And more

Join Us!  Get Involved!   Let ... individuals make the most of what God has given them, have their neighbors do the same, and then do all they can to serve each other. There is no use in one man, or one nation, to try to do or be everything.  It is a good thing to be dependent on each other for something, it makes us civil and peaceable.

- Sojourner Truth
